PostSubject: How To Beat Tim Tebow   Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:25 pm

Mad Dog recently said in one of his blogs that You beat Tim Tebow by putting 2 safeties deep and making him run like Auburn did. Well here's the thing, if you put two safeties deep and make him run....he won't. Not this year Mad Dog. Maybe you haven't done your research on Gator Nation this year so I will catch you up to speed. Tebow wont be running for 20 TD's this year. Now they have plenty of people to do that for him. Tebow's job this year is honestly going to be get the ball in the hands of people who can outrun everyone. I assure you they have a couple of guys to do it. Not to say he isn't going to have to scramble around every once in a while and make plays with his legs, which we all know he is capable of doing, but making him run is really really dumb. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE wantd a shot at Tebow last year....until they hit him. After that it was all ankle tackles and jersey grabbing. If Tebow didn't prove that he was capable of running the ball last year considering he had 20 rushing TD's (More than Alabamas whole team had rushing by the way) and winning the Heisman then obviously you can never be satisfied. But here is how you beat Tebow. You get the baddest D-Line you can think of and you make sure that every single play someone on that line or maybe a backer hits Tebow. You get him rattled a little. Tebow only threw over the top on Auburn last year because that's all he knew. This year is completly different. He knows more, has more, and amazingly will do more than he did last year. He may not have the flashy numbers but he will be the leader of arguably the most athletic team in Gator history. The last thing a defense wants is tebow to run the ball. He is a fullback who just happens to complete passes. No one wants that. It is about like saying the way to beat John Parker Wilson is to make him throw. It is completly backwards from the truth. Ask anyone who knows football that.

Alright this sorta aggiatated me mainly because i think i hit this one on the head. No you really don't want Tebow to run but the more he runs the more it hurts the Florida offense. I have examples from last year to back up my previous statement so don't go crazy JJ. Besides the Tenn. game Tebow would touch the ball way to much. This again sounds crazy but i actually believe the more he runs the more it disrupts te flow of Florida's offense. Therefore teams with strong d-lines ( teams like Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and even Michigan to an extent would rather him run than throw.) Againest Ole Miss Tebow rushed for an impressive 166 yards and two TDs on 27 carries. 27 carries!!! Very impressive but if not for a late Tony Joiner interception it is very possible the Rebels punch it in and take the lead late in the game. In the loss to Auburn Tebow rushed 19 times for 75 yards. If Florida has so many playmakers why not let them touch the ball 2. Againest No. 1 LSU the following week, Tebow rushed 16 times again more than any Florida tailback. He was just 12/26 passing and Harvin only touched the ball 6 times (2 rushes and 4 catches.) See the pattern, Tebow is good but he put up those insane numbers because 1) he is a talented player and 2) he accounted for more than 80% of all total plays ran. In the games Florida won the ball was more evenly spread out. Againest Georgia he accounted for 35 of the 57 plays. Again 14 rushes this time for -15 yards (he was sacked 6 times) which again proves that if you drop the safties and your d-line is good enough to contain him that is the best strategy. And Thats what i was saying when i said Auburn did a good job by implying this strategy. Its cool though i just didn't appeciate you saying that wasn't a good strategy because the teams that beat Florida used Auburn's blueprint. In the Bowl game vs. Michigan Tebow rushed 17 times while tailback Moore had only two rushes.... 2!!!!! In Gator wins the numbers are more spread out. I mean Tebow still gets the most touches its just he has more help.

Never the less i will be coming out with the SEC Predictions this week check it out

Ok maddog, to be honest you make a lot of good points and my intentions were not to single you out and just say your wrong. A lot of people believe what you believe but in your arguments there are tons and tons of x-factors. For instance, in the Georgia game Tebow was told not to even play he had a bone bruise on his thigh which prevented him from being the Tebow we all know and love (or hate). He was told to sit in the pocket. You can not tell Tebow to sit in the pocket. That isn't what he does. And yes he was sacked six times as a result of it. Mainly because the O-Line was not used to blocking for someone who stayed in the pocket. I won't take anything away from Georgia's D-Line. They knew he was hurt and had a good gameplan. As far as Kestahn Moore goes, he had a horrible case of the yips last year. He was so fumble happy Coach Meyer didn't even let him play some games. So him getting 2 touches is about all he needs. The only reason Harvin didn't get the ball as much was because teams were keying in on him when Andre Caldwell is hurt (kind of like what will probably happen to Julio this year cause of the big name status). Again as a result of this Harvin got hurt. A very injury plagued year last year for the gators. We had O-Line switching to D-Line cause we were so short. Anyway to make a long story short. Tebow was the back for Florida last year. His name is the quarterBACK. You can succeed with him running the ball and they did. Florida lost games last year because of their defense. They put up a 30 spot on Georgia and gave up 42. Same with Michigan scored plenty of points couldn't stop super mario manningham on the outside. The one game where the offense did not play well is Auburn. Your case is basically made with Auburn. The defense actually played well (well to be fair auburn's offense just sucked). But the offense was a little behind the times. That game to me was just Florida being very very young everywhere. They will be scary this year. They may have to much talent for their own good. If the defense can perform half of what the defense did in their title year in 06 then they should own the SEC up until Georgia. But you make some strong arguments for your point but it was a good point for last year not this one. If you want Tebow to run it he can do it, if you make him throw well i mean look at EVERYONE he has to throw to. He will be fine the D is the question mark.
